Parting Shots on a Great Birthday Weekend
January 26, 2025
We’re having to reinvent our Dillon experience a bit, since we’ll probably never return to the fabulous Full Circle. I have to admit, Full Circle really defined Dillon for us (well, maybe just me?) and staying in a new place was a bit of a let down. But we pulled out a great visit, and I expect we’ll return in the years/birthdays to come.
Some more random pics:
A footprint on the beach. NOT either of ours. But what a print…

Speaking of sand art… we came upon this sand writing on Friday Dillon Beach walk.. and later learned the artist was our Lisa, scrawled earlier that day before we all met up for lunch. Glad we’d not missed it.

As seen in Dillon…

The ubiquitous iceplant, this patch stretching into the dunes…

A great view spot along the road, just before descending to Dillon Beach…

I like this one for perspective.. you can see Tomales Bay, the long peninsula whose length we’ve hike numerous times, and the Pacific in the distance. Limantour Beach is over the peninsula and well to the left on a piece of land that juts west.

Bird on a post, a drive by that worked…

I love the road shots..

Us, all happy and windblown:

We stopped at Della Fratoria in Petaluma on the way home and split a tuna sandwich on their great bread.
And that’s a wrap.
My Day…
January 25, 2025
… spent with my guy.
Here’s what went down:
A leisurely arisal (apparently not a word); surprise Neccos (that Jim); our traditional Dillon breakfast; a breathtaking drive from Dillon to Pt. Reyes; a lovely trailhead conversation with a pair of doctors from Berkeley who offered us oranges; a level, 6-mile hike (the first, I might add, following the great 2024 knee blowout) from Muddy Hollow to Limantour Beach; an assortment of arty jellyfish; an early dinner at the Station House Cafe in Pt. Reyes Station (which included a celebratory 1/2 doz raw oysters, exceptional cornbread and a very memorable polenta/greens/toma cheese entree); a sated and happy drive home, arriving back to Dillon for an exquisite sunset. We capped the day with my come-from-behind squeaker of a Perquacky victory and a movie thriller that strained credulity (Carry-on).

Ann Arbor Meets Dillon
January 24, 2025
Ah… the vibe starts to seep into the pores. We’re on Dillon time. Here’s the view out the kitchen window, first thing:

Nice to have a hill view (foreground is our backyard fence) ..

The day starts with what has become our traditional Dillon breakfast: oatmeal, blueberries, raisins, coconut, pecans, brown sugar…

Then some of this (Jim’s not off to a good start)..

… and some of that (Perquacky, favoritest game ever)…

Claire and Lisa — who are spending a couple weeks housesitting in Santa Rosa — came over and we met them for lunch down at the cafe and then took them for a walk around the so-called village.

Here are Lisa and Scout on the Bumblebee path to the beach..

They took off and Jim and I walked the 1 1/4 mile length of the beach, and back, turning around just shy of Lawson’s Landing. Incredibly beautiful weather.
The dunes..

The beach..

The end of the beach proper, looking across Tomales Bay at the Pt. Reyes National Seashore and the long skinny peninsula that we’ve hiked numerous times (farthest point is Tomales Point, off to the right in this shot):

Came home and made a nice salmon dinner.. then watched the 2014 movie Whiplash.

Off to Dillon
January 23, 2025
Off to an extended birthday weekend in Dillon… first stop Petaluma, and lunch at the Wild Goat Bistro. We mighta chosen Pearl, but they were on a Winter break. Hadn’t been to the WG Bistro before and we were both pleasantly surprised. Jim had tacos and a cute serving of black beans in a mini frying pan. I had tomato and goat cheese bisque and a smoked salmon, bacon and avocado sandwich.

We settled into Camp David…

It is no Full Circle, but our beloved cottage down on Summer St. has been priced well out of our range. (Before taxes and fees, Full Circle now goes for $805/night.. which probably means it’s well over $1000 for a night, with a maximum of two guests.. that’s just nuts. It was a fabulous run… but we have to find new places to stay in Dillon.) Camp David is a wee funky from the outside and has no ocean view, but the inside’s lovely, and certainly met our needs.
We took a walk before dinner and caught a stunning sunset… headed down to the beach via the pirate…

A couple more…
