Post Sad Independence Day; Pre Happy Travel Day
July 5, 2025
[Note: I’m in backfilling mode. If you’re a reader, you’re going to be confused for awhile.]
I’ve recovered slightly from my melancholy of yesterday’s Independence Day. More accurately, July 4th is behind us and I’m not thinking too much about our crumbling democracy today. Instead, I’m in packing mode (again) for a 9-day trip to Ann Arbor and Vermont and pretty damn excited about that. Get to see Peter and Maya for 6 chill, easy, go with the flow days, then get to see my old buddy Lauren-Glenn and her wonderful husband Mark for a few days on Lake Champlain (I believe). None of that sucks!
I checked my photo archive for a pic I may have taken on July 5, and came up with one: the cute plate I bought in Alcobaça, Portugal. [When I get around to blogging that trip, I’ll explain more about this regional ceramic style.] For the moment, this plate sits on our kitchen table. It’s nice and cheery to look at.
