Exhale

November 25, 2023

I’m sure I’ve titled a blog post “Exhale” before… it’s that day after a big holiday when the work’s behind you and what remains is the afterglow — the satisfaction of a job well done. Family came, ate, had a good time, enjoyed one another, everyone was duly thankful. Now everyone’s gone (except Peter) and today was quiet, easy time doing mostly nothing but being together. Here, I’ll show you.. I’ll take a pic right now ….

See? Nice moment, ya?

We’re about to head out to dinner at Burma, his choice. Three days of turkey and leftovers is enough (I had pie for breakfast). In fact, here’s that pie…

So we needed a change o’ pace.

Earlier in the day, Peter went off to play golf (with Dylan and Sebastian) and Jim and I figured out how to watch the last quarter of the Michigan-Ohio State game (Fubo comes to the rescue)… which was extremely exciting. UMich was on top, but it was close (24-17). We saw each team score (Ohio scored a touchdown, and UM scored two field goals) and the game grew even closer and we grew increasingly nervous. This is hilarious of course, because we are not football people, but, honestly, within seconds of tuning in we were devoted, highly-invested fans and totally chewing our nails when Ohio got the ball with a minute left (a touchdown would have tied the game and, based on the power and efficiency of the Buckeye’s last drive, that looked like a real possibility) and we were so stressed out! When UM intercepted a pass in the final minute, effectively bringing Ohio’s threat to an end, we — and the 110,000+ people in the stands — went nuts. How goofy are we?

Final score Michigan 30, Ohio State 24.

Here’s a pic of the madness (happy Wolverines pouring onto the field after the game)….

THAT is a Big House.

I think, even as a non-football fan kid, I knew about the Michigan – Ohio State rivalry. It’s a fact of American life. It’s fun to have a dog in this fight. Sorta.

Another nice thing on a do-nothing day with my favorite people: Peter and I went for a long walk around the arb… very pretty and pretty chilly.

Four and a half miles of fall colors and great conversation…. def my happy place. See?
